We are waiting at the station with Dad,
metaphorically of course.
We can hear the whistle of the train.
We don’t know how far away it is.
But eventually it will arrive.
He has no baggage.
No one does at this station
but he knows the Engineer.
His body, weak and weary from the journey…
but this will be the last for him.
A rendezvous with bliss.
He has no appetite for the food here.
He speaks in mumbled whispers and sings short lingering tones.
And we are waiting by the station.
Even as the days pass, the exits are closed
He’s entered a place where only boarding passengers can be… to wait
But I see him through distant glassy eyes.
I know he’s in there.
Waiting, hoping, weeping, silently
until the tickets are torn and He waves to us and sallies forth into the great glass, darkly…
face to Face.
Oh, Matt…my heart is filled with love for your dad and all of you! May our great God’s grace encompass you all.

You are deep treasured, Aunt Glad. Dad has a fever with no know cause which they are saying is usually a sign of end of life. His breathing is shallow. I don’t know how long, but I know we are getting close. He hasn’t been responsive for around 24 hours. Thanks so much for the prayers and encouragement over the past few days. We love you.

My heart hurts. I so wish I could have been with Deb on her visit. That we could have sung “Some Golden Daybreak” one more time. That he would have asked me … “how do you keep a turkey in suspense?” I would love to put my arms around you, Melinda, Mel, Mark Jr. and your mom. There are just know words. So thankful for the years, the lessons, so much more. Love you all.

Only Matt Tullus could write this and for it to be so true. It’s the same for many people every day, but when it’s your Dad, it’s different. I can only say for God to be with you and your family during this time of departure. Prayers and love and patience to all.
